Nights out at the legendary Hacienda “Nude” nights in 1988 led to the meeting of minds and the beginnings of the K-Klass phenomena which took off in 1989.
Originally formed by Paul Roberts, Andrew Williams, Russell Morgan and Carl Thomas, the original idea was just to make a track that would get played in the Hacienda and 18 years later the K-Klass name is still going strong.
K-Klass had already gained underground support for their acclaimed “Wildlife e.p.” released in 1990 before they unleashed their sound onto a nationwide audience with the release of "Rhythm is a Mystery"(No.3 in U.K. Top 40) and the huge "Let Me Show You"(No.13 in U.K. Top 40) as well as a further four U.K. top 40 tunes and 2 K-Klass albums.
In the early days the live show had always been at the fore of the K-Klass ethos and had seen the band play over 200 shows and seen them tour Germany, italy, Spain and Australia between 1989 and 1994 but as the years went by the boys felt that they could reach an audience better in the form of the turntable and mixing desk.
The K-Klass studio bandwagon kept rolling as they moved direction to remixing and producing for other artists. Notable remixes have included the infamous Bobby Brown “2Can Play That Game” and other artists that have had the K-Klass treatment have included Janet Jackson & Luther Vandross , Kylie, New Order, Whitney Houston. The Corrs, Cher, M-People plus another 100 or so that are too many to list (check the discography for full list)
The highlights of their remix career has seen the boys win “International Remixers Of The Year 1995” and seen them nominated for a prestigious GRAMMY award in 2002 for their remix of Samantha Mumba.
Paul & Russ had both been Djing since 1990 just doing the occasional one off appearance. But in 1994 the official K-Klass DJ'ing experience began and is a coalition of their illustrious studio endeavours and a fusion of genres embedded in their eighteen year history.
As the K-Klass DJ sound took clubs by storm with their floor filling sets which is always evolving and encompasses the many genres of “House music” from new to old skool and from funky vocal to minimal electro this has led to appearances at luminary UKvenues (past & present) like:
Miss Moneypennys (Birmingham), Love ToBe (Leeds), Garlands (Liverpool), Hacienda (Manchester), Heaven (London), Formula @ Pacha (London), Smartie Partie @ Turnmills (London), RETRO @ Tall Trees (Yarm), The Escape (Swansea), Shindig (Newcastle), Zap (Brighton), Déjà vu (Hull), Golden (Stoke), Colours (Glasgow), Eye Candy (Edinburgh), Club UK (London), Miss Moneypennys Tours (nationwide), Sminoff Ice Experience Tour (Nationwide), Creamfields festival (Liverpool)
Whilst securing residencies for:
Pacha @ Ministry of Sound ( London ), Cream (1996-1998, Liverpool), Cream @ The Tunnel Club (1997-1998, Glasgow )
On the world-wide scene, K-KLASS have proved themselves just as popular:
Kent cigarette sponsored tour of Russia Tangerine (Dubai), The Embassy (Jakarta Indonesia), Club Base (Brazil), Pacha (Portugal), Smirnoff Experience (Jamaica), Volcano, New Century and Heiniken NYE Party (Vietnam), Love Boat Party (Hamburg featured in DJ Magazine), Amnesia, Privilege, El Divino (Ibiza), Diesel Fashion Show (Oslo)
As well as touring under the "CREAM" name in:
Italy, Finland, Dubai, Cyprus, Benidorm, Tenerife Club 13, First Club and Kube (Moscow, Russia) Club UK tour (Denmark) Night Flight party (Varna,Bulgaria) The Lucky Strike tour (Johannesburg, Durban, Cape town, South Africa) 2002 D-Club (Switzerland)

The Keeping Place has finally finished their Valuation of 547 artworks with a registered value and will be releasing the details soon to the public! It has taken a total of 20 months to complete. Congratulations are in order!
As Mabo Day, June 3, approaches we should remember that Redfern has been asking for a Keeping Place where Aboriginal people can safely store their important artworks and other historical documents, photographs, etc. Redfern has been a special "meeting place" since colonisation took place.Redfern Municipal Council was incorporated in 1859.
This year is being celebrated as the 150th anniversary but still precious photographs and paintings sit waiting in a shed.
The future of Eveleigh and an Aboriginal centre are being determined now. What will be the fate of these treasures?
See this link to the Redfern Oral History website for testimonies about THE KEEPING PLACE
Come and view for yourselves paintings, artefacts, photos and records spanning over the last 35 years are on display under one roof. The Keeping Place is a museum of Aboriginal life..
This is a free event in honour of Reconciliation Week, Sorry Day, (May 26, also known as National Healing Day), and to celebrate the 41st Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum (May 27). It is important to remember Mabo Day, (June 3) and this is also the last day of Reconciliation Week.
Herbal Tea and a light meal will be provided with thanks to donations & generosity from friends of the Keeping Place.
Alcohol free day.
Hope you can come and join us for this Celebration of Aboriginal Culture, please send onto friends and colleagues.
Elaine and Gordon Syron

It is with the greatest of pleasure I can announce the return of the Freemasons down under. With 4 consecutive top twenty UK singles, The UKs most successful (Grammy nominated) remixers. The Freemasons truly need little introduction, sort after to do remixes by the worlds leading vocalists they are fast becoming one of the worlds leading dj producers.
The fantastic vocals of Katherine Ellis on their last single when you touch me means that the guys have yet another smash hit on their hands.
The Freemasons remix of Beyounce and Shakiras Beautiful Liar remained at number 1 in the UKs charts for weeks, so impressed with the mix Beyounce requested the guys to kick start her kid sister Solange career and do production on her very first single I decided already a hit single in the USA I decided was released in the UK and Europe last Monday and seems destined to be yet another huge success for the guys.
The Freemasons have collaborated with Australia’s favourite daughter Kylie Minouge to remix The One. Due for world wide release in October.

The Australia Tibet Council has created a unique photo exhibition to commemorate this important date and highlight the courage and determination of Tibetans to preserve their rich cultural heritage. The 50 images – many taken inside Tibet itself, others taken in the Tibetans’ exile home of Dharamsala, India, and in Australia – capture the beauty, courage and irrepressible spirit of Tibetan culture that continues to develop despite 50 years of oppression and exile. A programme including Tibetan cultural performances, panel discussions, film screenings and meditation classes will accompany the exhibition.

NOW HERE’S MY DARK SIDE
A quirky and challenging dark side to art work at Sydney’s Tap Gallery
The Tap Gallery in Darlinghust will show the quirky and challenging dark side to art work at their special exhibition March 9 -19 Among the artists on show will be brilliant 3D graphic expert Rose Moxon and talented Chris Lewis who will be showing her ambiguous dark side.
Lewis says her exhibition works were a reminder that the ego could run amok, if let it, creating fears that could control ‘our better function of reasoning’.Other artists include the exhibition organiser Steve McLaren, Midori Furze, Viola Bloomfield , Laurie McKern, Rose Moxon, Geoff Coleman, Mel Brackstone, Paul Louis Villani, Adriana Glackin, Melanie Crawford, Mark Moskvitch, Sarah McCauley, Joe Perugini, Sarah Moore andDi Wu.
This night will feature drinks & live entertainment
Some four and a half years since the release of their second album, Reality Chant, Christchurch based Dubwize release their eagerly awaited third album, legendarily-dreaded front man Snypa Levi's solo offering, Dubwize Presents Snypa Levi: The Sojourner.
David 'Snypa' Levi was born in the US and immigrated to NZ way back in 1988, joining the Twelve Tribes of Israel and forming the VisionAfrica band. After returning to the US for a few years, he settled in NZ in 1995, recording as Papa Levi, before joining forces with Dubwize in 2001, recording their debut album To The Control Tower. One listen shows why these Rastafari brethren took their time crafting this musical journey through rhythm and rhyme, as the production levels are miles ahead of their previous releases – yet stay true to the Dubwize sound and vibe.
Since early 2005, vocalist David 'Snypa' Levi and DJ/producer Gabriel 'Messenjah' Calcott – with major contributions from Nava 'Confucius' Thomas – have been producing the album, utilizing a solid core of heavyweight session musos. Recorded in studios spread between Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton, The Sojourner boasts a track listing that has been successfully road-tested – a sweaty, satisfied dance floor massive the ultimate judge of the quality of these songs.
Lead single Meet U @ 9 showcased Levi's fierce dancehall style, while new single Country Living is the stylistic opposite with its roots reggae sensibilities – showcasing Dubwize's ability to connect with roots/one drop and dancehall fans. What you have here are sixteen tracks of slammin' dancehall and militant roots reggae, painstakingly mixed by Messenjah and expertly mastered by Ian McAlistair.
Dubwize tour nationally early 2009 to promote their new release 'The Sojourner'.
Expect fire performances and irie riddims and vibes.

The pair will be flanked by a huge support cast including Future Classic’s JAMIE LLOYD and Deep As Fu*k resident DJs (RifRaf, Marcotix, Schwa) for an event that will recreate the Deep As Fu*k vibe away from a club environment and is sure to be a rare ‘proper’ old school underground party.

On 24th September 2008, Waverley’s Deputy Mayor Dominic Wy Kanak will present and officially open Gordon Syron’s new works and Terry Grundmann's new museum, Neptune’s Creatures Art Museum (NEPTUNES GALLERY). The collection of artworks Syron has produced exclusively for this show are on sale, and Mr. Grundmann is donating his commissions to the Redfern-based museum, “The Keeping Place”.
From 1972, Gordon Syron found himself incarcerated and incredulous that he had been convicted by a jury of people who were not his peers. In these circumstances he voiced his experience by painting Judgement by His Peers. As Bruce James published in The Sydney Morning Herald on Oct 4, 1996, "An early work, Judgement By His Peers (1978), was painted during a life sentence in jail. Showing the accused as a lone-white figure amid an all-black jury and judiciary, it has the same claustrophobia and craziness as Nolan's version of Ned Kelly".
Cultural differences are still a point of contentious issue in an Australian court of law. As Chief Justice Murray Gleason pointed out during his National Press Club address in August 2008, many judges still do not understand differences in manner, for example, not looking a person in authority in the eye is an expression of respect, not guilt.
As President of Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, Syron worked tirelessly to stop the deaths in custody in the 80s and 90s. Gordon Syron continues to be motivated by themes of injustice and the absurdity of racism, disenfranchisement and the theft of this land. At this exhibition The Black Bastards Are Coming will be featured.
On 24 September 2008 Gordon Syron will also unveil a new set of artworks created for the first commercial gallery exhibition of Neptune’s Creatures Art Museum (NEPTUNES GALLERY), directed by Terry Grundmann. These artworks include: The Poisoning of the Waterholes of Australia, The Paintbrush is Mightier than the Sword, Where the Wildflowers Once Grew, Invasion Day, The Dreaming Man, Do You Believe In Fairies, Hanging Gums and The Aboriginal Ballerina. Syron has also painted some new works that reflect the oceanic nature of other objects collected and displayed in the Museum. These include sharks and the remains of devoured Red Coats.
Gordon and Elaine Syron are working to document and preserve over 450 Aboriginal artist’s works at The Keeping Place. The 1200 plus artworks are being catalogued in a warehouse with Local Government sponsorship. Syron continues to act as an ambassador to the truth as, ”Invasion Day,” owned by the Museum of Sydney, hung proudly in the foyer at the Australian Pavilion at the Beijing Olympics. A selection of the artworks housed at The Keeping Place can be viewed on their Web Site: www.blackfellasdreamingmuseum.com.au .
Terry Grundmann has developed a museum and gallery which is a place of peace and a reminder to conserve. It’s covered with ocean artefacts, dolphin art, sharks teeth, crocodile’s heads, tarantulas and giant models of marlin. He has also undertaken to show some of Australia’s most magnificent works of art in the future.

SYDNEY EARTHDANCE LINEUP ANNOUNCED
After much speculation and ‘Earthy’ rumours the lineup for Sydney Earthdance 2008 has finally been revealed. You now have permission to get ‘proper’ excited for the festival on Saturday 13 September! We dare say that even the most ardent music fans will be exposed to new quality sounds at this year’s Earthdance, as the lineup covers a broad scope of music and stretches beyond electronic and dance acts, with funk, reggae, hip hop, dub and pop acts all representing strongly.
Considering Earthdance is coordinated by the Deep As Funk crew it should come as no surprise that the electronic acts on the lineup are of the highest caliber. Future Classic’s Peret Mako, Deepchild, Emerson Todd, Deep As Fu*k residents RifRaf and Marcotix, Mark Dynamix and underground production duo Shades of Gray – performing live - are among the highlights on the Electric Earth stage. The likes of Spruce Lee, Mark Murphy, Magic Happens and Sleater Brockman will also be representing – and indeed bouncing – at the Disco Not Disco Jumping Castle.

Among the eclectic array of quality acts slotted for the Beyond Boundaries stage include The Versionaries (live), Foreigndub, Kingtide (live), Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek (UK), Fretless (Live), S.Y.L.K. (live) and Theatre of Disco (live)… notice a theme here? Quality local acts all performing live! We’re going to avoid asking you how much would you normally fork out to see such a lineup, though we do ask you to keep this in mind when you make your donations at the entrance.
The festival will also incorporate a diverse array of artworks and performances – we are going far beyond the standard conceptions of a music festival! People will have the opportunity to explore and interact with a range of striking works and installations from a selection of renowned Australian artists, including Ana Wojak, Gavin Barbey, Anthony Babbici and Elizabeth Day. Stay tuned for a detailed look at art and performance at Earthdance in next week’s mailout, and as ever, check out the developments on the constantly evolving Earthdance website.
We also remind you to come early this year, as the new venue of Prince Alfred Park, Surry Hills has a limited capacity and we are sure it will fill up quickly. Get there for the opening ceremony at 9am – we aren’t going to reveal the guest speakers just yet – and kickstart your day in spectacular fashion, as we are closing at 6pm this year and we want you to make the most of every minute of Sydney Earthdance 2008.

Phonique
When: 13-Jul-2008 Where: Mr Marys Redfern
"Phonique is the best representative of Pokerflat, Four Music‘s Fine, Moodmusic, Kompakt, Simple Records, Souvenir Records, Dessous and all quality underground house music grooves"
"Phoniques album Good Idea was definitely one of the best releases of 2007"
"Phonique - no1 deep house producer (Beatport Music Awards)"
...THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING SPECIAL...
The Deep As Funkers are back with another International encore show this time with heavyweight tech-house/minimal producer Phonique coming down to smash it up after superb show at the Laundry. For those of you that have been to our other encore shows with International djs and producers such as Gui Boratto and Phil Kieran this will be another night to remember. The local support is comprised of all the crews that are working with DAF at the Bunker plus some of the most popular guest DJs such as Noel Boogie, Jimi Polar & Mark Murphy. To accomodate the massive line-up we have Mr. Mary's - The new venue has 2 dance floors and a small outdoor courtyard to go with the cool interior and of course the essential: a cranking soundsystem. Very clean & schmick and staff said to be friendly.
Midday till Midnight twelve hour extravaganza!!
Phonique
...is firmly entrenched amongst the world's leading underground dance producers. Having established himself in Berlin in the early 90's throwing parties with the likes of Llorca (F-Com), Joakim (Tigersushi) and Ivan Smagghe he has remained a perennial favourite among clubbers by constantly evolving and developing his sound. While renowned for underground house, taking out the 'Best Deep House Artist' in the 2008 'Beatport Awards', Phonique's output traverses and melds an eclectic mix of genres, from hip hop and DnB to techno. Voted as one of Berlin's 5 most loved DJs in Prinz magazine, along with the likes of Paul van Dyk and Jazzanova, Phonique has featured prominently on such canonical dance labels as Crosstown Rebels, MoodMusic, Poker Flat and Dessous over the past decade. The list of quality collaborators featured on Phonique's most recent album 'Good Idea', which included Steve Bug, Gui Boratto and Zoo Brazil, gives a fair indication of the esteem in which he is held. Never restricted by genre Phonique is truly one of electronic music's leading lights. Check out : Phonique Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/phonique

Ludwig comprehends timeless music, styles and genres. Since his debut in Harry Klein, Munich and Club 11, Amsterdam he has been recognised and admired throughout Europe. The handwritten word is psychometric; it functions like an oscilloscope to map the rhythms of the body, both corporeal & emotional.
The drawings in the exhibition "Öscilloscope" medidate on the physicality of the handwritten word. The imagery is abstracted from such measuring devices as oscilloscopes. an oscilloscope produces a line that maps sound. While my drawings are silent, they do map the experential sound-scapes of the human body: rhythms like heartbeat and breath. To me these rhythms are alive and manifest in the handwritten word.
The production of these drawings is igneous (related to or produced by fire) I use burning and smoke blackening as a means of marking over intaglio printed text. Both text & the flames mark, for me, are residual traces, a way of capturing the past, or of containing what once was.

Dear Earthdancers ~We hope you will join us on September 15, 2007 for the Prayer for Peace and the Global Om.
In Peace,The Earthdance Team
Join Us for the World’s Largest Global Om on Land and Sea!
Be a part this profound moment by registering to do a Private Earthdance Event
On September 15th, 2007, millions of people across the world will unite their voices to create the world's largest synchronized Global OM
This magic moment will be the highlight of the 11th annual Earthdance International peace festival, and will be the first time in recorded history that global participants will attune to a special specific frequency that is derived from the natural sound of the Earth itself (The Shuman Resonance). Earthdance International is the world’s largest synchronized global dance and music festival that unites over 350 locations in 60 counties to support humanitarian causes and world peace. The defining moment of Earthdance is the global link up where each event participates in the “Prayer for Peace” at the same time.
To find out what time the Prayer for Peace and Global Om are happening in your time zone, please visit: www.earthdance.org/timezones
This year, the Earthdance Prayer for Peace will be followed by a synchronized Global Om, as people across the world unite their voices with the intention of healing the Earth’s waters. In addition to this frequency that will be audible on land, we will transmit the same frequency (via specially designed water speakers) to the waters of several sacred rivers throughout the world (Amazon, Ganga, Nile, etc). This gesture is our attempt to "homeopathically resonate" the Earth's water with our global intention of healing the waters, and thus unite all life, on land and sea.
The Global Om is a specific healing frequency and can be downloaded as a free MP3 with the Prayer for Peace at: www.earthdance.org/h2om
Over the centuries, Scientists and mystics have honored water’s sacred and restorative properties. It is increasingly evident that this precious resource is now critically endangered. We encourage you to invite your community to join us for the 2007 Prayer for Peace and the Synchronized Global Om! There are several ways in which you can join us for this very special moment.

Some more about the show: Whilst writing this show Natalie Krasnostein asked 10 rabbinic authorities if she was permitted to portray God in a play. “Rabbi, I am pretty sure that I am going to do it anyway, but I just want to make sure its halachicly* permissible. “Yes Natalie it is permitted but make sure your heart is in the right place”. So she looked into her heart…and it took her back to the days when she was just freed from Egypt and deciding whether to hang with the crowd and the glimmering golden calf…and then she closed her eyes again even tighter this time and it took her further back to when she was Eve about to not pick the apple… Natalie studied at John Bolton Theatre School, has been involved in community theatre in indigenous communities in Western Australia and theatre-in-Jewish-education in Perth. She practices random acts of psychology, psychodrama and painting and is the founder of 3gh.com.au – a project which focuses on third generation Holocaust descendants.

@->->--. Multi media: Circa Diem In the realm of new media Pentateuch presents an illustration of arts culture, a modernist journey from post millenium. A composition of film media taking the viewer from the third dimension in symbiosis with the fourth & fifth dimension of time. Brought to you by La vie en rose & the Kirk Gallery.
Artist's Impression: Circa Diem explores the mystical wonder of time based art as it appears all around us in the period of 24 hours revolution of the earth's globe, day becomes night. A play on audio visual syncronicity & the revelation of speed of light in synergy with sound. "In every loom there is a reverse, for if there were no darkness how could we recognise the light? Found where shadows dance & stardust appears, where life breathes upon the tears of dawns mist, all encompassing the illusion of time where film is to see & editing is to paint. Inspired by working as a multi media film artist at the Kirk Gallery, with "4D the movie" of Sydney based artist Gretel Pinniger, a community of artists & the book "Genesis of the Grail Kings", by Laurance Gardiner. The Pentateuch is a five screen animated room & an interactive web gallery in association with http:// www.grail.com.au Designed for the contemporary world & the need to preserve the sustainabilty of community arts, to unite & prosper as artists leading into the 21st century. "Originally from Montpellier, this duo is made up of Gilles le Gamin (Gilles the kid), DJ and creator of the Z'appies and the label G Funk, and Olivier M, composer and passionate about music. Their meeting took place at Z' appies when Olivier dropped off his demo one day. Gilles was immediately taken by the impact of the rhythms and the vitality it gave off. Two weeks later, they were working together. That was at the beginning of 1999 and their first piece would be the 3rd for the G-Funk label. Olivier and Gilles live a tranquil family life far from the social life of Paris. Neither of them are into night life.... Gilles prefers to go fishing in his leisure time or which a rugby match ( a sport he has been playing for 12 years), whilst Olivier likes tinkering around with his machines all night or going to the beach to watch the thunder storms out at sea.... at 3 o'clock in the morning! He lives at night. This complimentary duo puts all its talent into one common aim: make people dance. Their absolute musical reference: Detroit Techno."
